This April, Reynolds Recital Hall is hosting one of Germany's most successful vocal groups, Calmus. With their wide range of tonal colors, the passionate joy the singers convey on stage, their sound culture and their varied and imaginative programs never fail to inspire. Join us for the Closing Concert of the 2023 NMU Jazz Festival! This concert will feature the NMU Jazz Ensembles and clinician Dean Sorenson, tickets are $12 for General Admission and Free for Students!
The NMU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Professor James A. Strain, will present
its annual spring semester concert on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 3:00 p.m., in Reynolds Recital
Hall. The concert will be performed on standard percussion instruments such as drums, cymbals,
gongs, marimbas, xylophones, bells, vibraphones, chimes and timpani, as well as “found”
instruments. The music will include a variety of ethnic musical styles, including Michael Udow’s
“African Welcome Piece,” Arthur Lipner’s “City Soca.” Two percussion ensemble selections, by
Johanna Magdalena Beyer and John Cage, each written nearly 100 years ago, will feature the
“found” instruments, a common element of modern chamber music techniques. In addition, local
drummer/percussionist Trevor Rosten will be a featured soloist on David Mancini’s “Suite for
Drum Set and Percussion Ensemble.” The concert will also be live-streamed via the NMU
School of Music, Theater, and Dance Broadcasting Network, which can be found at
https://smtdbroadcasting.nmu.edu.

Join us in Reynolds Recital Hall on Thursday, March 23 for the first of two concerts for NMU Department of Music's Annual Jazz Festival!
The Opening Concert performances will feature our own Faculty Jazz Combo and guest artist Dean Sorenson, trombonist/composer. The festival will close out on Friday night with another concert in Forest Roberts Theatre.

On February 21st, the NMU Arts Chorale and University Choir will be performing "Considering Matthew Shepard" by Craig Hella Johnson. The choirs will sing alongside a chamber orchestra. Come see this epic piece in Reynolds Recital Hall!
