Mailshare

A Mailshare (or listserv) is basically a discussion group operated by email. Mailshares allow Internet email users to place themselves on electronic mailing lists. Information is automatically distributed by email from one party to all members on the list. When you subscribe to a list, your name and email address is added to the list. NMU's Mailshare allows students, faculty, and staff to subscribe to numerous campus-wide mailing lists.

NMU EduCat

Northern Michigan University's online learning management system.

Create on-line courses, or to simply publish materials that supplement existing courses. NMU EduCat requires minimal technical expertise on the part of the developer of the course, and on the part of the student. NMU EduCat is entirely web-based. There is no software to install (other than a web browser such as Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer) on the computers used by the students or instructors. Common areas for course design may include:

  • bulletin boards
  • chat rooms
  • calendar
  • syllabus
  • testing
  • instructor biography

Faculty
NMU Educat is available to any faculty member at NMU to use for material dissemination to students through an Internet browser. Instructors requesting a course at NMU should use the NMU EduCat Class Requests Form. For additional information on NMU Educat course design, setup, and implementation, contact the Center for Teaching and Learning, at 227-2483.

Students
After an instructor has setup an online course for a class, students can access the course via the NMU EduCat Web site at http://educat.nmu.edu by entering their NMU ID and password. Note: Course access will become available for students the friday before the first day of the course.
