2nd Annual Mind over Miles 5k

Participants stand at the starting line of the 2024 Mind over Miles 5k.

Volunteer

NMU WellBeing Promotions is excited to host the second annual Mind over Miles 5k on Thursday, October 9th at 5:30 PM, in honor of World Mental Health Day. This event celebrates the connection between mental and physical wellbeing while encouraging open conversations about mental health and reducing stigma around seeking help. Participants will enjoy a scenic loop through much of NMU’s campus, starting and finishing at the Wildcat Statue by Jamrich.

Registration is available on NMU’s ticketing site. T-shirt sales close at 11:59 PM on Sunday, September 14th, and online registration ends at 11:59 PM on October 5th (no same-day registration). Packet pickup will be held on Wednesday, October 8th from 3-6 PM in the Jamrich 1100 lobby, and on race day from 4:30-5:15 PM. Timing will be provided by Superior Timing. Post-race refreshments are sponsored by Embers Credit Union, gift cards for the top three overall finishers in female, male, and non-binary categories are sponsored by Queen City Running Company, and age group awards are sponsored by NMU Case Management.

Interested in volunteering as a form of participation? Check out volunteer opportunities and other details on the 5k landing page.

New this year in the weeks leading up to the race, faculty, staff, and students are invited to join ‘Cats to 5k, a training program with beginner and intermediate groups to fit most fitness levels. Staff and faculty sessions will be led by colleagues, while student sessions will be student-led. Employee session details will be shared via email as leaders are finalized, and student sessions will be posted on the Hub. If you are interested in leading any sessions, please reach out to Jessica at jcoullar@nmu.edu.

American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Lydia M. Olson Library

Red Cross Blood Drive. Thursday, March 30. 10:00AM—3:00PM. Lydia M. Olson Library

Volunteer

Support your community!

The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive on the main floor of the Lydia M. Olson Library from 10:00 a.m. — 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30th.

While there has been a significant and encouraging response to the dire need for blood across the nation, the American Red Cross needs more people to give in the weeks ahead to recover from its worst blood shortage in more than a decade.

Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, the Red Cross employees have implemented added precautions to ensure blood drives and donation centers are safe for donors and staff.
