The goal of this lecture is to inspire a deeper understanding and greater appreciation of the U.S. Constitution. This lecture will focus on the U.S. Supreme Court's handling of two constitutional issues: voting rights and presidential criminal immunity. It will examine two sets of factors related to these issues: the facts and basic principles of constitutional law arising out of the historical background, the actual text, and the intent of the authors of the original U.S. Constitution and the Reconstruction Amendments related to these issues. Constitutional contortions emerge when the court disregards or distorts the facts of these cases and basic principles of constitutional law.
