U.P. Future Health Leaders Camp

Northern Michigan University's Center for Rural Health hosts its first first annual Future Health Leaders Camp.

NMU Center for Rural Health

Join us for a fun week of camp to learn about various aspects of health, meet health professionals, explore simulation labs, learn hands-on techniques and get a glimpse into healthcare careers and life on campus. The camp is open to all fall 2025 high school freshmen and sophomores.

The Upper Peninsula Future Health Leaders Camp (U.P. FHLC) is designed to promote the culture of overall health by:

  1. Educating youth about best practices for living a healthy life,

  2. Providing an opportunity to explore a variety of health career options,

  3. Creating and developing new friendships in a fun-filled week of education and activities, and

  4. Encouraging youth to start thinking about their future and how they can truly make an impact.

Educational topics will include basic physical health including nutrition and cardiovascular, mental health, and oral health. Additionally, there will be structured time to learn about surgical technology radiography, speech-language pathology, audiology, and clinical lab sciences. Youth will get hands-on patient simulation experience, and complete CPR & first aid certification by the end of the week.

Each day will begin with a health professional providing insight into their career and each night will end with social and recreational activities. Youth will also have an opportunity to meet with a variety of health professionals and learn about career path options at a health career fair.

Lastly, youth and parents will learn more about tips on what they can do now to better prepare for college.
