For full access to the Internet and NMU network services over the NMU on-campus wired and wireless areas, you must register each network interface (wired and wireless are separate entries) on your computer. Before you register, you will only be able to access limited on-campus Web sites, and you will not have E-mail access.

 

Keep the following mind while registering:

  • Must be on-campus and using the NMU WiFi or Ethernet network to register.
  • Users will be required to register their machine once per semester.
  • NMU issued computers with have both the wired and wireless connections registered when registering using either connection.
  • Your NMU account must be active in order to have computers and devices registered. 
  • You are limited to registering 3 devices via the "register.nmu.edu/device" option.

There is no limit to the number of computers you can register. However, please note that your NMU ID will be attached to each computer you register, and you will be responsible for the actions performed using this machine.

Choose a device type below for instructions on registering it. 

Register an iOS Device

The following notes are provided but the process and menu choices may be different on your device.

1. Tap the settings icon  and select "Wi-Fi".
    

2. Select the network you want to join under "Choose a Network..." In this case, choose "NMU" or any network that is not "NMU_GUEST."
    
3. Once the device connects to the network, open Safari or another internet browser. 
4. Type "register.nmu.edu" in the URL bar and you should see the "NOT REGISTERED" message. 
    
5. Enter your NMU UserID (i.e. jsmith without the @nmu.edu) and password in the fields on the register page and click "Sign In." 
6. You will need to watch a short clip of the Dean explaining the copyright policy, then click "Continue." 
6. Read and accept the Copyright Policy and Acceptable Use Policy.

7. Once your screen shows that you are registered, you will have to wait up to 15 minutes for the internet to access non-NMU sites, but this time period is often much shorter.
    

Register an Android Device

The following notes are provided but the process and menu choices may be different on your device.

  1. Naviagte to the "Apps" shortcut.

  2. Select the "Settings" icon.

  3. Under the "Connections" tab, select "Wi-Fi."

  4. Select the NMU network. There are other connections around campus the residence halls is named "NMURES" and the apartments is called "NMUAPT."

  5. After you successfully connected to the network you will need to register the device by opening an internet browser on your phone. In the URL, type "register.nmu.edu"

  6. Once you get to the website, it will prompt you for a log in. You will use your NMU UserID (i.e. jsmith without the @nmu.edu) and password. 

  7. You will be prompted with a video of our Dean of Students, Christine Greer, talking about the copyright policy. Click "Continue" when the video completes.
  8. Once you get to the registration complete screen, you will have to wait about 10-15 minutes until you have full access to the network.

Register a Blu-Ray Player

Blu-ray players are digital optical disc players formatted to supercede the DVD format and are capable of playing high definition video resolutions (1080p). The extra capacity of the Blu-ray discs combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs offer an unprecedented HD experience. 
 

1. Find the MAC address on the Blu-ray player.
2. The MAC address for the most popular brands of Blu-ray players will be located under "Network Settings" on the player.
3. Open any internet browser on your computer and in the URL box type,"register.nmu.edu/device"
4. Enter your NMU UserID (i.e. jsmith without the @nmu.edu) and password in the designated areas.

    

5. The NMU Copyright Policy will be displayed. Select "Continue."

    

6. The NMU Acceptable Use Policy will be displayed. After reading, select "I have read the NMU Acceptable Use Policy."

    

7. You will now be required to complete the NMU Network Use Policy Test. Once all the questions have been answered select, "Submit Answers"
8. You will now need to enter the MAC address you found in step one.  After entering the MAC Address select the appropriate device, for this scenario you'd select "Other" for a blu-ray player. 9. Select "Register"

   

10. Once you get to the "Registration Complete" screen your blu-ray player will be active in about 10 minutes. For security reasons, select "Logout" on the bottom of the screen. 

    

Register a Smart TV

​Smart TVs allow you to access video streaming services like Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, YouTube and Hulu. These internet connected TVs offer more computing ability and connectivity than a traditional basic television set. They have the ability to connect either through Ethernet or WiFi. They come with an operating system to run widgets and apps. 

  1. Find your MAC address for your TV
    • Apple TV
      1. In the Main Menu, select "Settings"
      2. In the Settings Menu, select "About"
      3. The MAC address will be listed next to "Ethernet ID"
    • Google TV
      1. In the Settings Menu, select "Network"
      2. Under the Network Menu, select "Status"
      3. The MAC address will then be listed.
    • Vizio Smart TV
      1. In the Main Menu, select "Network"
      2. In the Network Menu, select "Manual Setup"
      3. The MAC address will be listed.
    • Samsung TV
      1. Under the Main Menu, select "Setup"
      2. In the Setup Menu, select "Network"
      3. In the Network Menu, click on "Network Test"
      4. The Mac address will be listed.
  2. Open any internet browser on your computer and in the URL type, "register.nmu.edu/device"
  3. Enter your NMU UserID (i.e. jsmith without the @nmu.edu) and password in the fields.
  4. The NMU Copyright Policy will be display. Select "Continue."
  5. The NMU Acceptable Use Policy will then be displayed. Please read through it and press "I have read the NMU Acceptable Use Policy."
  6. You will now be asked three questions regarding the NMU Acceptable Use Policy. Please answer all questions and press "Submit Answers."
  7. You will now need to enter the MAC address of your Smart TV. For "Type of Device", select "Other."
  8. Click "Register."
  9. If the registration worked (The MAC address was not previously registered, was typed correctly, and you have not registered too many devices), the next window will say "Success" and you will have full wireless access within 10-15 minutes. 

Game Console

To utilize your console on the NMU network, you will first need to know the MAC address. Click a link for help finding this informaiton before moving on to step one of this section.

1. On your computer, open any internet browser and navigate to register.nmu.edu/device.

2. Enter your NMU UserID (i.e. jsmith without the @nmu.edu) and password in the designated areas.

   

3. The NMU Copyright Policy will be displayed, select "Continue."

   

4. The NMU Acceptable Use Policy will be displayed. After reading, select "I have read the NMU Acceptable Use Policy."

   

5. You will now be required to complete the NMU Network Use Policy Test. Once all questions have been answered select, "Submit Answers."

6. To complete the registration of the console, you will be prompted to enter the MAC address for the device. After entering the MAC address, select the type of device you are registering as"Gamebox," then choose "Register."

   

7. A "Success" message should appear. Your console will be registered within 10 minutes. For security reasons, please click "Logout."

   

​Nintendo Wii

1.  Select "Wii Options" in the lower left hand corner of the main menu.
2. Select "Wii Settings" and click the arrow located on the right.

3. Select "Internet" then choose "Console Information."

4. The MAC Address will be listed here. Record it, as you will need it in order to register the Wii console.
5. Visit step one of this section to register the device with the MAC address. 

 

Xbox 360

   

1. Go to the "System" section of your Dashboard, then select "Network Settings."

    

2. Select the network you are connected to. 

   

3. Under the "Network Settings," select "Configure Network."

    

4. Move over to "Additional Settings" then select "Advanced Settings."

    

  

5. Select "Alternate MAC Address." A record the code under "MAC Address."

    Mac Address
6. Visit step one of this section to register the device with the MAC address. 

Xbox One

1. First, enter "Settings" section.

2. Select "Network," then "Advanced Settings." 

    
3. Note the two labeled MAC addresses. Choose the one you will be using (Wi-Fi or LAN/Wired) and record it.
4. Visit step one of this section to register the device with the MAC address. 
 

PS3

1. From the home menu, go to "Settings" , then select "System Settings"  and press "X". 

2. Scroll until you see "System Information" and press the "X" button.

3. Your MAC address will be displayed. Record it for the registration process. 

   
5. Visit step one of this section to register the device with the MAC address. 
 

PS4

1. From the home menu, select "Settings"  and press the "X" button. 

   

2. Select the "Network" menu.

   

3. Open the "View Connection status" menu. 

   

4. Note that the PS4 has two labeled MAC addresses. Choose the one you will be using (Wi-Fi or LAN/Wired) and record it. 

    
5. Visit step one of this section to register the device with the MAC address.
